The La Posta Police Department is responsible for protecting the 3,556-acre La Posta Reservation, which is located approximately 56 miles east of San Diego, along the U.S. border with Mexico. The reservation was established in 1893. The La Posta Reservation is part of the Kumeyaay Nation, which historically comprised much of what is now San Diego County.
LPPD officers operate under federal authority as governed by the Tribal Law and Order Act of 2010 and Public Law 280. All officers have been trained to California POST Basic Certificate standards.
